Dr. Hassan Wirajuda

Dr. Hassan Wirajuda is an Indonesian diplomat. He served as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council for Foreign/International Relations (2010-2014). Previously he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia (2001-2009) in two cabinets, the Gotong Royong Cabinet (2001–2004) and the United Indonesia Cabinet (2004–2009).

Hassan Wirajuda initiated the formation of the Indonesian Human Rights Commission. He also facilitated peace negotiations between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Philippine government which resulted in the signing of a peace agreement in September 1996.

Due to his success and experience in the fields of diplomacy and security, in January 2011 President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono gave him the task of leading the Task Force in efforts to evacuate Indonesian citizens in Egypt. The evacuation was carried out following Egypt’s domestic political crisis.
