Pengembangan Hukum di Era Antroposen

IOJI is currently advocating for the reconceptualization of environmental law in the anthropocene era. The start of the Anthropocene era marks a watershed moment, emphasizing human-caused disruption of the ecosphere. This era has pushed the earth into a planetary crisis, beyond critical limits. Meanwhile, most of the existing environmental laws and governance are still ineffective in responding to the global ecological crisis. The major gaps in existing international environmental law are most pronounced in the absence of a comprehensive normative framework, leading to a reactive approach characterized by fragmentation, lack of coherence, and limited synergy among sectoral regulatory frameworks.

At the national level, in Indonesia, environmental degradation is still a major threat even when various legal instruments for environmental protection are available because environmental law in Indonesia has experienced a setback or decline in recent years.

Therefore, there is a need to rethink Indonesian environmental law and reconceptualize it into law in the anthropocene era that can overcome the increasingly real planetary crisis in the future.
